Author Q&A
Three authors release books in the same week, an Englishwoman, an American and and an Australian. No, it’s not a joke, it’s release week for Kirsty Moseley, Kelly Elliott and Tina Gephart.
Purely coincidentally, the three of us are within releasing days of each other and thought, huh… maybe we should join together like a bunch of 1980s CareBears and share the love. Plus it makes a nice test run for our plans of world domination, each of us in key locations to facilitate maximum mayhem. #Jokes or so we’d have you think!
Anyway, back to release week. We have THREE amazing books coming out, Man Crush Monday (Kirsty Moseley – a hilarious rom com) Delicate Promises (Kelly Elliott – a swoony southern romance with all the feels) and Send Me Crazy (T Gephart- a laugh out loud rom com that is slightly ridiculous) – ALL which can be read as standalones!!! So in addition to each of us getting some pretty badass ARCs in our inbox #AuthorPerks, we wanted to do some fun stuff together to celebrate each other and our books which you will hopefully enjoy.
We also thought it would be fun to interview each other, because who doesn’t like finding out more about your friends. Check it out below.
KIRSTY: Hi, ladies! OK so looks like I’m up first to ask the questions! *shuffles cue cards and clears throat* Right, let’s get the juicy stuff. I didn’t want to ask boring questions, so I’ve gone for things I’d genuinely want to know the answers to!
KIRSTY: So first one… If you weren’t a badass author, what would be your dream job?
TINA : Lord, in fantasy world, where I could be “anything” I’d say an intelligence office with some high level government agency. Not a spy, because I don’t like the idea of being shot at and living in a foreign country pretending to be someone else isn’t my thing. But the kind that uses a computer to infiltrate the bad guys with hacking skills that would make me borderline dangerous if I wasn’t on the right side. *leans forward and whispers into the mic of her Macbook* Yo, FBI, I’m joking okay. I have no badass hacking abilities, so can take me off the watch list. I can’t even work Windows after Windows 7 #MacGirl and have no idea how to code. So either a brainy hacker with access to the NSA or if that didn’t work out, maybe forensic chemist who solves crimes with tiny pieces of evidence like Abby on NCIS. Yeah, I know I have issues.
KELLY: Oh man…what would I do if I wasn’t an author. I think I’d be one of those travel bloggers…crap that’s writing still though isn’t it? Something to do with traveling. I love visiting new places and how cool would it be to be paid to do that?!?! My answer isn’t nearly as cool as Tina’s was. *shrugs and hangs head low*
KIRSTY: If you could swap lives with any person for one day, who would you choose?
TINA : No idea. I have been trying to think of someone and each time, I come up as blank. Not because I don’t think that it wouldn’t be cool to have a sneak peak into someone else’s life, but because no matter how awesome you think it is, they will inevitably have their own problems. I know, I know, who invited the “downer” to this party? But I think I’d rather be just a better version of myself. Or if I HAD to choose someone, because my original answer is too freaking “wanky” and let’s be honest, it kinda is, let’s go with the Queen of England because I want to know what’s really going on with Harry and Meghan. Plus she has some kickass tiaras. I bet Lizzie has some crazy good tea and not the Lipton kind.
KIRSTY: Ooh, that’s a good point Tina! My choice is less exciting than yours… I’d have to go for Blake Lively, because hello hottest husband on the planet LOL. Plus, she’s pretty damn amazing herself. Queen of England though… the thought of people licking my face everytime they post a letter is pretty entertaining too. How about you, Kelly? Can you do better than Queen Liz?
KELLY: Okay, I don’t know if this counts cause the person was fictional…but Dr. Quinn. You know from the Medicine Woman. *runs to Google to make sure that is the right name* Yep…it was right. I have always wanted to leave “back in the day” and who better to be than Dr. Quinn! She was beautiful, she was smart, and she didn’t take any sh*t from anyone!
KIRSTY: If you could bring one of your characters to life to be best friends with, who would you choose and why?
TINA: I’d have to say the female lead in my latest book, Quinn. She’s sassy, and funny, but more importantly has a huge heart. I love how sarcastic she can be, but still be kind and always had the best intentions even if slightly misguided. She is also one hell of a good time, and I would love to hang out with her. Plus hello, Riley is insanely hot and even though I am VERY happily married, look at Quinn’s guy is totally acceptable.
KELLY: Oh I LOVED Quinn. Mine would be…um…they would be….um…man who would it be? I feel like I’ve written some amazing characters and trying to pick one is HARD! Okay…it would be Ellie from Wanted. Only for nostalgic reasons cause I cannot pick one! But she will always have a special place in my heart so she might as well come to live and be my BFF!
TINA: So I guess I’m next. I’m the meat in a Kirsty, Kelly sandwich and couldn’t be happier to be sharing this release week with two of the most awesomest authors I know. *Waves* Hello ladies, how are you both doing? You realise we’re like some bad ass international allied Charlie’s Angels posse? Each of us on a different continent, covering almost all of the time zones between us. Hell, we get organised enough, we could totally give world domination a red hot go. *leans forward again* I’m joking again. Relax MI6.
So questions. Hmmmmmm what do I want to ask?
TINA: So i’m gonna kind of steal Kirsty’s idea but change it slightly, and go with If you could DATE one of your characters, who would you choose and why? (Yeah, you have to choose only one for this exercise. It’s okay, we won’t tell the others.)
KIRSTY: Oh man, this is hard. A lot of my males have traits I love in a man (hello, abs and stamina LOL). Choosing one… this is hard… OK, this genuinely took a lot of my thought process but I’ve come up with an answer… just. I think I’d have to go for Nate from Enjoying the Chase. He’s my funniest guy (plus the abs and stamina *winky face*) and I do find it sexy if a guy can make me laugh. Plus, he’s SWAT so could bring the uniform home on occasion.
KELLY: Kirsty….man that is a good pick! Okay *cracks knuckles* who would I pick? Dang this is hard y’all….I’m going to say Thano from Stay With Me. Good Looking. Like Kirsty, he was SWAT, and he is Greek. Need. I. Say. More?
TINA : Sweet or Savory. If you can reach for any kind of snack (and calories don’t exist in this hypothetical) what is your go-to treat that you can’t say no to.
KIRSTY: Savory. Every. Time!!! My favourite snack is salt and vinegar flavour crisps (chips for anyone outside of the UK). They’re my go-to and I have to limit myself as I could easily eat a whole six pack to myself. Give me crisps over chocolate any day (and that’s saying something because I’d class myself as a chocoholic!!)
KELLY: Easy…chocolate. Every single time. But it has to be the chocolate in the UK or Australia cause that sh*t is like CRACK.
TINA : Last one, fantasy time again. We’re having a dinner party! Catered of course because Lord knows no one has time to cook, and it’s at some fancy mansion that none of us have to clean. You each can invite three guest authors. Besides us—because obviously we’d be there—who would be sitting at the table with us. Past or present, dead or alive. And PS I know I’m not supposed to answer the ones I ask but I’m totally bringing JR Ward.
KIRSTY: I hate this question because I can never just get it to three!!!! First, Stephen King. He’s my unicorn author and I love everything he writes. I’d love to just ask him where he comes up with his ideas and what he’s working on now. His books were my first step up into horror after my teenage obsession with Point Horror novels when I was a teen. Plus, he’s written my favourite book of all time – The Green Mile. Second, JK Rowling – hello, no explanation needed here (and if there is an explanation needed, I’m gonna have to call you a muggle, sorry.) Third, Sally Thorne, because OMG Josh! The Hating Game was my top read of last year, one of the very few books I’ve finished and immediately turned back to the beginning. Also, I follow her on Twitter and she is so hilarious and down to Earth. I missed out on meeting her at RARE this year, so she’s gonna have to sit by me eat awkwardly while I stare at her in awe – sorry, Sally, but suck it up!
KELLY: Jane Austen. That’s an easy one. She’s the reason I write. Fell in love with her in English class in high school when we had to read Pride and Prejudice. Second, Frank Peretti. His book Piercing the Darkness changed my world. Third: Tessa Dare. OH MY GAWD I would probably starve that night because I’d be hanging on all her words and unable to eat.
KELLY: Oh man I’m bringing up the rear. *cracks knuckles* Let’s do this. When you sit down to write, what are your “must haves”? I have to have music playing, I have to have a drink, and I have to be able to see outside (weird I know). Wait, we’re not supposed to answer our own questions. Oh well, I’m a rule breaker.
TINA : My Mac, my writing companion, Woodley, and I need to be in my bedroom. I have tried writing in a designated office, it doesn’t work. And I can’t have music or distractions, a coffee shop or something equally as cool doesn’t work for me. I need to be alone with my fur baby, in quiet. So boring! LOL I should just make up stuff so it sounds more exciting but sadly, I’ve got nothing.
KIRSTY: I’m a pretty simple soul. I have music playing VERY quietly in the background, like I can hardly hear it because if it’s too loud I sing along instead of working! And coffee, always coffee! Like Tina, my fur baby Lolly is an amazing writer’s companion and she always seems to know when I need breaks (i.e. cuddles LOL)
KELLY: If you could pick a time period to travel back to, what would it be? You can’t stay in the present and you can’t go into the future.
TINA : I am fascinated by Art Deco and the 1920’s. The sequins, the fringes, the glitter, the dark lipstick (we already know I’ve got the right red in my makeup bag, ready to go) all of it so exciting. I think it would have been an exciting time, and if nothing else, the fashion was amazing.
KIRSTY: Are we just talking travelling for a bit then coming back again, like, really quick? Because if so I’d love to see the Dinosaurs but yep, a quick stop and get back here before I’m eaten!! But if it was a long term transition switch, I’d love to go back to the late 60s. I can’t imagine how it would have felt to watch the moon landing, plus my parents got married in 1969 too and I’d love to have been a fly on the wall there and seen my family all young, gorgeous and together celebrating.
KELLY: I’m totally happily married, but I still have a hall pass. I may have three, but that is neither here nor there…who would your hall pass be?
Tina: Alexander Skarsgard. LOL Is this a shock to anyone? Am I supposed to pick three, or are we sitting on one? I’m happy with my one and think it will come as no surprise.
KIRSTY: Just one?? That’s not how this game usually works, that’s just mean LOL. OK, I usually have three but seeing as Tina went for one…. I’m going to pick my top one… probably Ryan Reynolds. See my previous answer about swapping lives with Blake Lively! Plus, he’s hilarious. Hot dude with a great personality. YUM.
THAT’S IT!
